The Lost Son
Luke 15:11-32 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Introduction: Why did Jesus tell this story? It was because the relationship between a father and a son is the best illustration on earth for man and God. I. The Younger Son 1. This is a person who decided other things in this world were more important than knowing God personally. 1) Maybe it is friends 2) Maybe it is money 3) Maybe it is pleasure 4) Anything that takes the place of God in your heart 5) Anything that draws you away from God's presence 2. The son had some doubts about how his father would react to his return. 3. He felt unworthy to be called a son. 4. He felt he would never be totally accepted again. 5. He felt he would have to work like a slave. 6. Never think you are too unworthy to come back to your Father. II. The Father 1. Understand God the Father's unexplainable love. 2. The father was looking for his son everyday. 3. When he saw his son he ran to him, threw his arms around him and repeatedly kissed his son. 4. The father gave him gifts of which proved his acceptance of his son. 1) Robe ? picture of acceptance 2) Ring ? like a honko, and a credit card, trust 3) Sandals ? a son who lives in the house and is not a servant 4) A party with the fatted calf ? honor III. The Older Son 1. The older son always lived in the Father's house but misunderstood his heart. 2. Sometimes the older Christians loose their excitement for God. 3. Sometimes we say to ourselves, "I have been faithful Lord, Why did this happen to me?" Conclusion: The Japanese boy who returned from Shibuya |
